This layer displays the average drive time to the nearest hospital. Drive times were calculated by CARES using the 2020 Landscan 100-meter population grid, road networks from OpenStreetMaps and hospital locations from CMS Providers of Service. Travel times were estimated using road distances, speeds, and network connectivity rather than straight-line distances or real-time traffic conditions. 100-meter grid results were aggregated to Census tracts and counties using population-weighted averages. Areas without sufficient routing data were excluded from the calculations.
